Petition for new postcode and phone area code.

We would also like to call on the assembly government/Royal Mail/British Telecom to re-designate the areas of Flintshire that currently have a postcode beginning with CH and a phone code of 01244 to be given a new postcode of FL and a new phone area code.

I find it confusing ,misleading and irritating when Flintshire businesses advertise their addresses as being in a different county(usually near Chester or sometimes Cheshire) .Not only that it is insulting to Wales to advertise a Welsh business as having an English address and will lead to resentment from Welsh people generally.An FL postcode will go some way to correcting the situation .

It would be all too easy to say "What does it matter, it's near the border anyway?" But if we let the identity of Flintshire (Wales) be supplanted by Cheshire (England), we're one step towards losing the identity of Wales entirely.And I for one am tired of receiving letters addressed to "Pen-y-ffordd, Chester, Cheshire"!

I think we should indeed have our own postcode (FL not CH) and the area of Deeside should use the 01352 extension and not the 01244 one.

I am originally from north Wales and believe that Flintshire is already eroded enough by the 'overspill' from Chester and the Wirral. Some aren't even aware that they are in a different country with its own distinct culture and language. It's disgusting, only by separating Flintshire from Chester will people begin to realise that Flintshire is not just another dormitory town overspill for Chester and Merseyside.
